wound types

Atypical Wounds

These are wounds that don’t fit typical patterns and may be caused By autoimmune diseases, cancer, or rare infections. They often require specialized care and diagnosis.

Bone Infections (Osteomyelitis)

When bacteria reach the bone through a wound or surgery, it can cause a deep infection that delays healing. These wounds require targeted treatment and often advanced therapies like antibiotics and wound care.

Burn Wounds

Burns can result from heat, chemicals, electricity, or radiation. Whether minor or severe, burns require specialized wound care to reduce pain, prevent infection, and minimize scarring.

Chronic Wounds

Wounds that fail to heal within 4–6 weeks are considered chronic. These wounds may be linked to diabetes, poor circulation, or underlying medical issues and often benefit from advanced, ongoing treatment.

Diabetic Ulcers

These are open sores, often on the feet, that occur in people with diabetes due to poor circulation and nerve damage. Without proper care, they can lead to serious complications.

Diabetic Wounds

Any wound in a patient with diabetes needs special attention due to slower healing and higher infection risk. We offer tailored treatments to promote healing and prevent escalation.

Non-Healing Surgical Wounds

Sometimes surgical incisions don’t heal as expected due to infection, poor circulation, or underlying conditions. We specialize in identifying causes and promoting recovery with targeted therapies.

Infected Wounds

Wounds can become infected with bacteria, leading to redness, swelling, pain, or discharge. Prompt treatment helps prevent the infection from spreading and speeds up healing.

Pressure Ulcers (Bedsores)

These wounds occur when prolonged pressure cuts off blood flow to the skin, often in immobile patients. They range from mild redness to deep tissue damage and require offloading and advanced care.

Surgical Wound Complications

Complications such as dehiscence (wound reopening), infection, or delayed healing can occur after surgery. Our team provides expert care to manage and correct these issues.

Venous & Arterial Ulcers
  • Venous ulcers typically occur on the lower legs due to poor vein circulation, causing fluid buildup and skin breakdown.
  • Arterial ulcers result from blocked arteries and are often painful, dry wounds on the feet or toes.

Both require specialized vascular-informed wound care.

Burns
We treat burns of all types: thermal, chemical, electrical and radiation-related burns, using modern wound therapies that minimize tissue damage and promote faster healing

wound treatments

At Southlake Wound Care & Hyperbarics, we offer a comprehensive range of advanced wound care treatments tailored to each patient’s needs. Whether you’re dealing with a chronic wound, a post-surgical complication, or a diabetic foot ulcer, our team uses evidence-based therapies to support faster, more complete healing.

Debridement (Wound Cleaning)

Removing dead, damaged, or infected tissue is often the first step in helping a wound heal. We offer several types of debridement, including sharp, enzymatic, and autolytic, based on your wound type and medical condition.

Advanced Wound Dressings

We use specialized dressings that help keep wounds moist, clean, and protected. Depending on your wound, we may use foam, hydrocolloid, alginate, silver-impregnated, or antimicrobial dressings to promote optimal healing and reduce infection risk.

Infection Control

Our clinicians closely monitor wounds for signs of infection. When necessary, we apply topical or systemic antibiotics and antimicrobial agents to control bacteria and support tissue regeneration.

Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT)

Also known as a wound vac, this treatment uses gentle suction to remove fluid and promote blood flow. It is especially effective for deep, complex, or slow-healing wounds.

Offloading & Pressure Relief

For patients with diabetic foot ulcers or pressure injuries, we use offloading devices such as custom boots or cushions to relieve pressure from the wound site and prevent further damage.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

For wounds that are not responding to conventional care, HBOT delivers 100% oxygen under pressure to enhance healing, fight infection, and improve tissue oxygenation. Learn more about HBOT ›

Bioengineered Skin Substitutes & Grafts

In certain cases, we use advanced tissue grafts or skin substitutes to help close chronic wounds that have stalled in the healing process.

Post-Mohs surgery

After Mohs surgery for skin cancer, patients may be left with open or delicate wounds requiring expert care. We provide customized treatment to promote clean healing, reduce scarring, and prevent infection—especially important in high-visibility areas like the face, scalp, or hands.
